About your host!
Embark on a fun, memorable and immersive beekeeping adventure, led by our Head Apiarist - Sam the Bee man.
With over 10+ years experience working with honeybees in the UK and collaborating with rural beekeeping projects across East Africa (Kenya, South Sudan, Congo, Uganda, Tanzania), Sam shares his unique perspective on beekeeping and his buzzing passion for the magical world of bees. Supporting people, planet and pollinators, he has helped beekeepers in East Africa boost their income with value-added products and taught them how to produce low-cost beeswax. Sam’s efforts go beyond honey; they’re about empowerment, self-sufficiency, and building communities.
What to expect?
Your day with the bees is split into several sections.
The workshop will commence with a friendly introduction, then ease you into some bee theory. Topics we will dive into include - the importance of bees, reproduction and swarming, the inner workings of a colony, bee biology, their secret communication skills, sourcing your own bees, beekeeping equipment, ethics and sustainability and so much more. We love curious minds, so feel free to ask away and get all your buzzing questions answered!
You will get the opportunity to be a ‘honey connoisseur’! Of course there will be a lot of honey for you to sample, including our 3* Great Taste Award winning collection. Sam will explain how and why honey comes in so many delicious varieties. You will also get the opportunity to taste honey from our sponsored Bee Keeping initiatives in East Africa, a truly unique experience that is drastically different in flavour!
We will get you kitted up in your trendy beekeeper suit and head off to one of our apiaries. You'll get up-close and personal and look inside the hive, where the magic happens. Expect plenty of bee interaction as we handle these tiny, hardworking creatures—giving you a fascinating glimpse into the life of these essential pollinators. If we’re lucky, we might just see the Hive’s Royal Highness herself... the almighty Queen Bee!
