OUR BEE SISTERS

  • I would love to! I strongly believe in Women Empowering Women. When I started The Wild Bee Company, one of my specific aims was to help women beekeepers in East Africa. As a female beekeeper in the UK, I understand that the trials and tribulations of women are tenfold in Africa. Having spent time in East Africa and worked with the local communities, I have seen first hand how supporting self-sufficient initiatives can make a huge difference to women and their community.

  • Our company has partnered with Bees Abroad (Registered UK Charity No: 1108464) to support two key initiatives for empowering women in East Africa through beekeeping:

    1. Uganda: Biringo Women's Beekeepers - This foundation project will train and support 45 women in the Biringo Women Development Agency (BIWODA) in bee-keeping so that they can become self-sustainable, earning additional income to support education, community development and housing

    2. The Kisembe Women Self Help Group  - established in 2013 and recognized by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development. The group primarily engages in table banking and managing tree nurseries, but also participates in collective farming, poultry rearing, fruit cultivation, and the production and sale of fireless cookers. The group aims to broaden its beekeeping collective, enhance pollination and generate additional revenue.

  • Beekeeping has traditionally been an all male-domain in African communities but we're here to change that! Rural women often face a swarm of challenges breaking into this field, but with your support, we're giving them the tools to create their own buzz - from equipment and bee suits to training and education. These incredible women get the chance to gain economic independence and generate a self-sufficient income. It will empower them to become self-sustainable entrepreneurs and leaders through the skillful craft of beekeeping. This not only boosts status in the community, but also allows them to focus on what matters most - providing for their families with food, security, medicine, and education, all while making a positive impact on the environment.

    Read more here.

  • Beekeeping generates income without destroying habitat, it encourages forest protection, uses land that’s often overlooked, and helps keep biodiversity buzzing. With bee populations in Africa declining due to habitat destruction and harmful pesticides, human intervention is becoming essential.

By supporting beekeeping, not only do we give bees a boost, but we also empower local women to thrive. Investing in small-scale, sustainable producers helps these communities for the long haul. It’s all about creating a cycle where people, the planet, and pollinators can flourish together.

HONEY?

  • That’s nature's way of winking at you! It means your honey is 100% pure, untouched by sneaky additives or processed sugars. Those tiny crystals are just the natural sugars doing their thing, and honestly, it's a sign you've got the real deal.

But if you prefer your honey silky smooth and runny, there's a simple trick to 'abracadabra' those crystals away. Pop your jar into a bowl of warm (not too hot!) water. Repeat this until your honey’s back to its golden, oozy self—perfect for drizzling on toast, swirling in tea, or letting it cascade over pancakes! Personally I just pop my jars on my radiator! Just be careful not to overheat it (never over 45 degrees), so you can keep all that delicious, raw goodness intact.

    And voilà, liquid gold again!

  • With the UK’s limited organic farmland, getting honey certified as organic here is like trying to chase a butterfly in a windstorm - super tricky! To our knowledge, no UK produced honey has the organic stamp of approval. But don’t fret! We harvest our honey from untouched places like national parks and green spaces. So while it might not have the organic badge, it’s still nature’s purest gold straight from the hive!

  • Honey is safe for children over 12 months.

  • Our honey is harvested straight from our own apiaries located around London and Surrey. We also offer a delicious heather honey from one of our beekeeping friends in Scotland - it’s one of my absolute favourites, and I couldn’t resist sharing it! We work closely with our wonderful beekeeping community, carefully sourcing honey based on unique flavour profiles. Every jar of honey is a reflection of the flowers in the vicinity, making each batch unique. You could say - 'LIMITED EDITION!'

SINGLE SOURCE ORIGIN - Each jar can always be traced directly to each location and apiary. Our slow, mindful beekeeping methods have allowed us to create a distinctive flavourful range of pure, unblended natural honeys for everyone to enjoy.

  • To keep all the good vibes in your honey, don’t mix it into boiling water. Use warm water, around 40-50°C. So go easy and let it dissolve into your drink without losing any of its natural magic!

  • Since honey is a by-product of bees, it's not considered strictly vegan, but it is vegetarian-friendly. That said, all my vegan friends still enjoy my honey after hearing our story. We produce everything in the most ethical and sustainable way possible, and our top priority is always the wellbeing of our bee babies. So while it’s not technically vegan, many choose it because they know how much we love our bees and their natural environment!

  • Absolutely! While there are plenty of books and online resources, nothing beats the magic of experiencing bees up close. Join one of our Introductory Beekeeping sessions, where you’ll get suited up, meet our bee babies, and dive into the fascinating world of the hive. It’s an immersive buzzing adventure with plenty of time to ask questions to our very experienced Beekeeper. Learn more here!

  • Honey is liquid gold! Bees collect nectar from flowers and plants, then carry it back to the hive. Once there, they pass it to their fellow worker bees, who mix it with special enzymes and store it in wax honeycombs. As they do this, they evaporate the water from the nectar, turning it into the thick, sweet honey we all love.

Bees make honey as food for the hive during winter when flowers aren't blooming. A hive only needs about 10kg of honey to get through the season, but a strong colony will make 3x more!

  • Due to regulatory requirements we MUST put a Best Before End on our honey. Truth be told, honey never goes bad! It's basically nature’s eternal sweet treat. Fun fact: archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are still perfectly edible! Honey has an acidic pH, low moisture content and natural antimicrobial properties that make it impossible for bacteria to grow in.

To keep your honey in top shape, store it in a dry place, keep it tightly sealed, and always use a clean spoon! Avoid adding water as that might cause fermentation (you’ll know it’s happening if it starts smelling like alcohol or gets foamy). But honestly, with all that deliciousness, it’s unlikely your honey will be sitting around for thousands of years!

  • Nope, and honestly, I don’t think we ever will! Personally, I’m not a fan of infused honey because it takes away from the pure, magical flavour that comes from the flowers and the efforts of our hardworking bee babes. Why mess with perfection, right? Honey is meant to be savored spoonful by spoonful - direct from the hive!

That said, if you want to infuse your own honey at home, go for it! It’s super easy, but trust me, nothing beats the real, unaltered deal!

For our Introductory Beekeeping sessions, long trousers is preferred and definitely bring closed toe boots/shoes. We will provide you with a funky beekeeping suit and a pair of gloves too.

CANDLES?

Find the most frequently asked questions below.
  • Yep! Every single one! I fell in love with the craft of candle making a decade ago. All of our candles are crafted with care in our Wax Atelier, located right above our honey and beeswax processing studio. Each creation is designed by me and infused with inspiration from Mama Earth. From psychedelic rainbow mushrooms to funky tie-dye wavy pillars, we love playing with wax alchemy. Each candle is hand poured and individually coloured using a specific technique, making each piece unique in its design.

  • Great question! Our candles are made from a 100% natural wax blend which consists mostly of beeswax and soy wax and an organic cotton wick.

  • Beeswax candles burn longer, brighter and cleaner than other candles while simultaneously purifying the air. The science? - little negative ions grab onto positively charged particles (think dust, pollen, smoke and other pollutants) and drag them down to the ground, leaving the air cleaner.

Since it’s all-natural, no synthetic chemicals or fragrances are released - just pure, clean, honey scented vibes.

  • You absolutely can! All you need is some beeswax, wicks and some creative magic. If you want to learn more about beeswax alchemy, you can join me on a Beeswax candle making Masterclass!

  • This can occasionally happen to our candles as we only use natural wax in our creations. It's referred to as "bloom" and it is a natural, waxy substance that forms over time that you can easily wipe it off!

  • I choose not to fragrance my candles. As someone with multiple allergies, I’ve learned firsthand that scented candles can cause health issues and flare-ups. While I’m happy to guide those interested in making fragranced candles through my candle-making masterclass, it’s not something I promote or make on a regular basis due to the potential long-term health ramifications. I also don't recommend essential oils as a safer alternative, because when burned, their chemical composition can become harmful. Beeswax candles, which emit a subtle honey-like scent, are the best option for a natural, safe burn.
